Hi Rodoric,
looking interesting; may I ask couple of questions?

- what are your sources for shield paintings? I see a real mixture of painting there so pardon my curiosity

- how are shields painted? Some colors look very bright

- how much participants was there?

More questions can come to my mind, bear with me :)
A když už byl založen řečený hrad Kamenec, kníže Břetislav, než odtud odjel, pojav stranou Mutinu...

hi Boza
- you have some differences shield painting coming from different troups present at Malemort
you mau have a look on the personneg from the site of Ost de Montjoie
http://www.montjoie.org/background_pers ... nages1.htm
for my shield , the paint is representing the family of Avesnes during the 12 century . (source of cluny grave)
like me most of the people try to have a source from a family of a personnage
-paint type :for me , i used moderm pigment on linen : my shield is wood+linen. so the roughness is not so low. when it is directly on wood for example the roughness is lower and brightness could be higher.
and, the sun of south of france is given this aspect
- participants : i assume around 4O during the battle + civilian (women ...)

you may ask me more questions
if you have troup interesting for next year you may contact the people on the site or ask me to give you the contact

regards

Hi Rodoric,
honestly, 12th century in France is bit of my scope, I'm focused on mid Europe between 920 - 1099 with certain interest in 9th century Francones.

But no doubt, there could be others for which such an event might be interesting; as usual travel costs come to play, especially to southern France :)

Hi Rodoric!

Your event looking interesting. Our association is interested in 11th and mostly 12th century - in middle Europe (primary Czech princedom), but our equipment is similar as your.

It´s quite pity, that you are far from us. We are Curia Vitkov association:
http://www.curiavitkov.cz

We hold similar event - battle - "Siege of Curia Vitkov" - here you may sight some pictures from our events:

I´m, alike as Boza, interested in old Franconic warriors (mostly heavy cavalry), but unfortunately for our project (open air muzeum etc.) I´m very busy for this reenactment.
Koupím-li trpaslíka, do rána má dva metry.
